History

Melbourne got its start in 1867 as a small settlement on Crane Creek, renamed in 1888 after Melbourne, Australia by the town's first postmaster. Just up the lagoon, the independent city of Eau Gallie grew alongside it for a century before the two merged in 1969 — which is why Eau Gallie still has its own distinct identity today. We've watched this town grow from those two halves into the Space Coast hub it is now, and we're proud to be part of it.

FAQ's

Do I need a permit to put a dumpster in my driveway in Melbourne? No, dumpsters placed entirely on private property generally don't require a city permit. If the dumpster needs to sit on a public street, sidewalk, or right-of-way instead, a permit from the City of Melbourne's Engineering Department is typically required. We'll always tell you upfront if your situation needs one. I live in an HOA community (Suntree, Viera, West Melbourne), do I need approval? Possibly. Some HOAs restrict dumpster placement, visibility from the street, or how long a container can stay. Worth a quick check with your HOA before delivery day.
