History of the area
Indian Harbour Beach was founded in 1955 by three men, one of them a descendant of a 19th-century Florida Lieutenant Governor who once owned this stretch of barrier island. Like the rest of this part of the coast, it grew fast, built to house the wave of aerospace and defense workers pouring into Brevard County. Today it’s a quiet residential city between the ocean and the lagoon, and we’re proud to serve it.
Our standout Gleason Park was named for city co-founder Lansing Gleason, a family favorite with walking trails, ponds and a recreation center with pool. Bicentennial Beach Park and Millennium Beach Park are the city’s two Atlantic-front beach parks. Bicentennial has a dune boardwalk and covered picnic pavilions. The Banana River has an aquatic preserve, and you can often see dolphins and manatees from shore, there are also many fantastic nighttime bioluminescent kayak tours.
A1A oceanfront corridor hosts our restaurants, condos, and beach parks. The Banana River side has quieter residential streets on the city’s west edge. Central Indian Harbour Beach, near City Hall has the picturesque Gleason Park, and the recreation center and community pool.
Do I need a permit to put a dumpster on my property in Indian Harbour Beach? No, private-property placement generally doesn’t need a permit. Right-of-way (street/sidewalk) placement requires a permit through the city’s Building Department. I’m on the lagoon side with a longer driveway, will this cause any issues? Not usually, just let us know your specific site details when booking so we can plan placement correctly.
