History of the area
Satellite Beach exists because of the Space Race after incorporating in 1957 to house the flood of workers pouring into Cape Canaveral during the Mercury, Gemini, and Apollo years. Even the name came from a local naming contest. It’s grown into a genuine beachside community since, but that space-age, built-for-a-boom origin story is still part of its identity. We’re proud to serve a city that was built to keep up — same as we try to.
Pelican Beach Park is the city’s signature beach park. With a boardwalk, dune crossovers, pavilions, volleyball courts, direct beach accesses and an event space that hosts the annual Ocean Reef Beach Festival every December. DeSoto Park is our local neighborhood park with a canal on its west side that’s a well-known manatee gathering spot. Don’t forget to keep your lights off at the ocean for our seaturtle friends.
Pinetree Drive corridor leads to Pelican Beach Park the most central beachside strip. The DeSoto Parkway area is a quieter, more residential area near DeSoto Park. Our A1A commercial corridor hosts restaurants and shops along Highway A1A.
Do I need a permit to put a dumpster on my property in Satellite Beach? No, private-property placement generally doesn’t need a permit. Right-of-way placement requires a permit through the city’s Community Development Department. My home is one of the older mid-century houses near the beach, any access concerns? Not usually, but older beachside streets can be narrower. Let us know your specific site when booking so we place the dumpster correctly the first time.
